Book Recommendations

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies… The man who never reads lives only one"

HOW TO DEVELOP A READING HABIT:

Develop a habit of reading for 30 minutes a day. If you can set aside 30 minutes a day regularly for a year, you can complete 55 books in a year. Yes, you read it right you can do the math. But If you are someone who procrastinates or is unable to develop a habit of reading at least 30 minutes per day, then I will recommend that you start by reading 2 pages daily. Set your targets low so that you can accomplish your daily target with ease and later progressively increase it from there. You can also add variety by reading multiple books from different genres at a time, like picking a book of fiction and nonfiction or from biographies and business management for a fortnight.

HOW TO IMPROVE READING SPEED:

Every time you read, you vocalize the words inside your mind. This is “subvocalization” and it reduces your reading speed. Without subvocalization, your mind will comprehend the information sooner than with subvocalization. To overcome subvocalization you can practice “Active reading” by using a pointer (your finger or a pencil would suffice) to move over the words while reading a book in such a manner that the pointer moves faster than your inner voice (Subvocalization), this forces your minds to follow the pointer and read hurriedly. With practice, you will identify the change in your reading speed, which will become your natural speed.

MY BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS:

I have segregated 110 books into 9 different genres (Fiction, biographies, nonfiction, space & Science Fiction, spirituality, Business Management, Self-Help, economics & Investing, and automobile). If you are a novice, I would recommend that you start with “Alchemist” and later progress towards your favorite genre. For example, if you are into the thriller genre, I recommend “Gone girl” or “The silent patient".

If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking “- Haruki Murakami.

The Book Recommendations that I have shared are just an extensive list unique to me. As everyone is unique in their ways, I recommend doing a bit of your research and building your library.

"It’s not how many books you get through, it’s how many books get through you"

If you don’t find any book interesting or worthy of your time (at least after reading 30-40 pages) then never hesitate to skip that book. You don’t have to be guilty about it or push yourself to read any book that doesn’t intrigue you. There are so many books but so limited time, so choose them wisely !!
